Если вы являетесь рядовым пользователем Mac, который раз в год добавляет новый шрифт для того, чтобы написать и распечатать текст к какому-нибудь празднику, то, скорее всего, это приложение не для вас. Речь пойдёт о мощнейшей утилите для работы со шрифтами, которой ежедневно пользуются профессионалы из Google, Microsoft, Facebook и прочих маститых мегакорпораций.
RightFont специализируется на установке, управлении, синхронизации и просмотре шрифтов на Mac. Минималистичный интерфейс приложения скрывает качественную и полностью самодостаточную утилиту.
Изначально окно программы содержит список всех установленных в системе шрифтов с постоянно активированным предпросмотром. В качестве альтернативы имеется вид «Сетка», актуальный при разворачивании программы на весь экран Mac.
В качестве примеров текста выступает название шрифта, но, активировав функцию “Toggle Preview Editor”, можно ввести собственный текст, как он тотчас же отобразится в списке. Это позволит получить конечный вариант того или иного текста, что очень удобно и актуально.
В топе четыре вкладки: библиотека, избранные шрифты, автоматические и пользовательские списки и несколько обширных наборов смайликов (более 4 000 иконок).
Источником шрифтов могут послужить не только локальные файлы, но и облачные папки Dropbox или Google Drive, причём синхронизация происходит в автоматическом порядке.
Осуществлять комфортную навигацию позволит продвинутый поиск с несколькими фильтрами (с засечками или без, рукописный, широкий или жирный), позволяющими максимально сократить время на подборку интересующего вас шрифта. Не хватает сортировки по русским шрифтам. Тут, правда, и локализации нет, хотя в ней особо не нуждаешься — всё и так предельно понятно.
Любой шрифт (выделенные или все) поддаётся практически мгновенной деактивации/активации, перемещению в избранное или собственные списки, так что разобрать и сгруппировать творящийся хаос не составит труда.
Да и вообще, скорость RightFont предельно радует. Мы, конечно, не проверяли, но разработчики приложения утверждают, что программа способна добавить 30 000 шрифтов менее, чем за 1 секунду. По ощущениям от использования оно примерно так и есть. После работы с RightFont штатные «Шрифты» OS X кажутся безнадёжной улиткой.
Пользователи оценят небольшой список шорткатов, который так или иначе повысит производительность при работе с программой.
А вот возможности глубокой интеграции мне так и не удалось вкусить. Разработчики обещают, что запустив любое совместимое приложение, достаточно просто выделить слой с текстом, запустить RightFont и выбрать нужный шрифт, как он тут же применится. Как бы я не старался, ничего путного из этого не вышло. Можно пинать на мою невнимательность, но факт остаётся фактом — тут есть явная непрозрачность взаимодействия с программой.
В настройках стоит отметить альтернативный режим отображения шрифтов “Narrow” и опцию отображения RightFont поверх всех окон.
RightFont не имеет триального периода, чтобы распробовать функционал перед приобретением, а стоимость приложения достаточно кусачая — $39.95.
Даже не смотря на мелкие огрехи утилита действительно стоящая, правда ценник разработчики выкрутили совсем не божеский. Найти что-нибудь более совершенное в этом сегменте вряд ли получится.
Наверняка некоторые из вас уже нашли менеджер шрифтов себе по вкусу, а многие до сих пор забивают систему и выпадающие списки сотнями шрифтов, большинством которых не пользуются каждый день. Помимо всего прочего, с каждой новой версией Windows количество стандартных шрифтов увеличивается в прогрессии:
- Windows XP: 133
- Windows Vista: 191
- Windows 7: 235
- Windows 8: 400 +
Что бы избежать головной боли от перелистывания всех шрифтов, с целью оптимизации рабочего процесса существует множество менеджеров, в большинстве своем они платные, имеют специфические UI и очень редко обновляются. Ниже я сделал подборку 5-ти лучших платных и бесплатных приложений:
Перепробовав все триальные версии платных приложений, я пришел к выводу, что платный функционал для меня не актуален, и я сделал выбор в пользу Nexus Font, Он бесплатный, маленький, быстрый, интуитивно понятный, с самым красивым UI (а-ля Mac) из всех представленных на рынке, и выполняет все возложенные на него функции как песочницы. С него и начнем:
1. Nexus Font 2.5
Самая быстрая из предоставленных программ: В Nexus Font нет автоматического сканирования библиотек и шрифтов при старте приложения, за счет чего она запускается в считанные секунды. В случае с Windows 8, это приложение показывает лучшие показатели по скорости и удобству в работе.

Самое функциональное на мой взгляд приложение, но в моем случае очень часто падала и сама портила свои же базы. Не смотря на частые обновления, существенного прогресса в ней не замечается уже с 2009 года. Не самый удобный интерфейс стал главным недостатком.

Perhaps the best font manager for Mac, for most people, is also a free font manager. FontBase is also cross-platform for macOS, Windows and Linux machines.
Built for designers by designers, the premise behind FontBase is activation and deactivation of fonts. Activate specific fonts when required for particular projects then deactivate them so that they don’t hog system resources.
Fonts are automatically deactivated when the FontBase app is closed. When the app is open and a font is missing for a particular design document, the font is activated automatically.
Fonts can be arranged into groups, thus making the management of a large collection of fonts even easier.
2. Suitcase Fusion 8 (Mac/Windows)
From Extensis, Suitcase Fusion 8 is a professional font manager and font organiser for macOS and Win dows.
Suitcase Fusion 8 is designed with compatibility in mind to support profession workflows from Adobe Creative Cloud 2018 and QuarkExpress 2018 and includes syncing, via the cloud, with the free app TypeSync. This negates concerns about lost fonts when working from, say, a desktop and a laptop.
FontDoctor is also included for corrupt font checking.
Suitcase Fusion 8’s FontSense technology examines and identifies fonts to ensure the correct font is always used. Again, fonts are activated and deactivated as required and the app allows for the browsing, previewing and organisation of many fonts.
3.Typeface (Mac)
Sporting a minimal interface putting the focus on fonts, Criminalbird’s Typeface is a beautifully designed font manager for Mac.
Typeface enables easy browsing, with live customisation of preview and size of each font—both default system installed and imported fonts—free from distraction.

7. NexusFont (Windows)
NexusFont claims to be the best free Windows font manager.
Developed by Junghoon Noh, a software developer from South Korea, the fact that NexusFont is free makes it instantly attractive to any Windows user, especially as Junghoon allows use by both individuals and organisations.
If you download and use it, you may wish to be a good netizen and add your name to over a thousand people who have also supported this software through a donation.
NexusFont sports a sleek user interface conveying information in an easily understood manner that makes that management, comparison and choice of fonts much easier.

8. Wordmark.it (Browser)
For casual users, a lighter-weight option is to go for a browser-based solution for font discovery, such as Wordmark.it. Typing a word or phrase is rendered, within the browser, in each and every font installed on the computer. Each example is listed together with the name of that font.
By its very nature, it lacks features such as activation and deactivation of fonts. That said, it’s a quick and easy way to review and discover system-based fonts.
As far as options go, there’s an input field to enter desired example text, there’s controls to increase and decrease the size of the font results returned.
Fonts can be selected and filtered. Essentially, this is choosing a small number of fonts to compare side-by-side.
There’s also a dark mode. In fact, the dark mode useful; it’s quite interesting to see fonts in inverted colours.
9. Flipping Typical (Browser)
When it comes to browser-based font managers, there’s not much to choose between Wordmark.it and Flipping Typical. It’s likely to come down to personal preference.
Again, aimed at the hobbyist computer user, rather than an amateur or professional graphic or web designer, Flipping Typical is a quick and easy way to browse the fonts already installed on the computer.
Using Flipping Typical is simplicity itself. Open a web browser and navigate to flippingtypical.com and you’ll see the first 70 or so fonts rendered in the browser.
At the top, in the black bar, is the name of the selected font. The large text beneath functions as both a preview and a search box. Click on the box and entered some text to preview that text across different fonts. Click on a chosen font to move it to the preview at the top.
Flipping Typical requires Adobe Flash to be installed in order to view more than the first 70 fonts.
Unlike Wordmark.it, Flipping Typical doesn’t have a font filter to choose a group of fonts and nor does it have a dark mode.
That said, for the ability to quickly view the installed font library—on any computer—Flipping Typical is worth noting for the casual computer user.
